Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the McDonald's New York Metro Foosball Youth Series.

1
What is the McDonald's New York Metro Foosball Youth Series?

It's a nine-event foosball tournament series for students in grades 7–12 across the New York Metro area. The series combines friendly competition and community engagement, culminating in a championship where the winner will receive a $5,000 educational grant.

2
Why foosball?

Foosball is a fun, social, and fast-paced game often associated with soccer. It's easy to learn and appeals to youth from different backgrounds.

3
Who is organizing the program?

The program is led by McDonald's New York Metro in partnership with Foosball Clubs USA, a New York–founded nonprofit that engages young people through foosball programs and school partnerships nationwide.

4
How many youth are expected to participate?

We expect 250+ students in grades 7–12 to participate across the eight qualifying events.

5
When and where will the tournaments take place?

Tournaments will be held at McDonald's restaurants across the New York Metro area beginning June 20. The series concludes on July 17 with the Championship Final.

6
Who can participate, and how do they register?

Students in grades 7–12 across the New York Metro area are eligible. Interested participants can learn more and register at FoosballClubsUSA.com. Space is limited for each tournament, and students are encouraged to sign up early.

7
What happens after I register?

Registration stays open through June 12. After that, here's how spots are assigned:

  • On June 13, 32 players will be randomly drawn to compete at each qualifying event.
  • If your child registered for multiple qualifiers, they are eligible to be drawn for any of them — but will be placed in at most one. No child will be selected for more than one qualifier.
  • Families will be notified by June 14 if their child has been drawn. You'll have 24 hours to confirm your spot.
  • If you don't hear from us by June 14, your child was not selected for this round — but stay tuned for future opportunities.
8
How do the qualifying events work?

Each qualifier runs a Monster Draw-Your-Partner (DYP) format across 4 rounds of play. Here's what to expect:

  • All registered entrants are pooled together and 32 players are randomly selected to compete.
  • In a Monster DYP, you are randomly paired with a different partner each round — so every round you're playing alongside someone new.
  • Individual stats are tracked throughout all 4 rounds on a live leaderboard.
  • The player with the best winning percentage at the end of all rounds advances to the Championship Final.
  • Ties in winning percentage are broken by total points scored.
  • Any remaining ties go to a head-to-head singles match.
  • The full event — all 4 rounds — wraps up in about 3 hours.
9
What is at stake for participants?

Each qualifying tournament is an opportunity to compete, have fun, and develop skills. The series culminates in a championship event where the winner will receive a $5,000 educational grant.

10
What is an educational grant?

An educational grant is money awarded to support learning or academic development—and unlike a loan, it does not need to be repaid. It is designed to help remove financial barriers to education.

11
What can the educational grant funds be used for?

The grant is designed to cover costs directly tied to learning and growth, including:

  • Tuition and school fees
  • Books, supplies, and course materials
  • Technology (laptop, software, internet access)
  • Certification programs or vocational training
  • Test prep (SAT, ACT, college entrance exams)
  • Transportation to and from school
  • Study abroad programs
  • Academic camps or summer programs
  • Among others

The issuing organization has oversight of how the funds are dispersed.

12
Will there be a lasting community impact?

Yes. All foosball tables used during the tournament series will be donated to local youth organizations following the conclusion of the program, allowing even more young people to benefit from the game and its developmental opportunities.
